Installing Mindjet 11 and issues I encountered

This is what happened when I installed Mindjet 11 to upgrade MindManager 2012.

  1. Had to install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Full.  It takes a while to download, make a cup of coffee.
  2. Main installation process worked normally.
  3. My Quick Access toolbar settings from MindManager 2012 were maintained! 🙂 As were My Maps.  But my Themes, Templates and Map Parts were not copied to Mindjet 11.
  4. The Mindjet Connect connection was transferred and became my Mindjet Files.
  5. Files created by previous versions of MindManager are not opened in Mindjet 11 after installation.  e.g. Open Windows File Explorer > Double click MindManager file and it opens in MindManager 2012.  I have not had to manually make the association before. In Windows 7 > Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Associations for.mmap to Mindjet 11.  Now clicking MindManager files opens them in Mindjet 11.Oddly all other MindManager 11 file types e.g. .mmas .mmat have been associated with Mindjet 11.

I will add more “discoveries” to this blog via comments.  Please add your own as well.  And don’t forget to tell Mindjet about them via the Technical Support form or the Mindjet Community.

Interesting just dragged a (custom) marker onto a topic and Mindjet 11 crashed.

I restarted Mindjet 11 (the Recovery function is working as always, so I only lost 5 minutes work at most). First I added a Mindjet supplied marker which worked. Then I added my custom marker which worked as well. Curious!

The template maps supplied by Mindjet have them as the author. Edit the templates you use frequently so your name is recorded in the map properties.

Many of the tips I wrote for MindManager 9 Windows apply to Mindjet 11 Windows.

I haven’t played with MJ11 yet but re the custom markers issue – were you trying to apply the marker from the Markers tab or from the Marker Index?

I seem to recall someone saying that with the upgrade to MJ11 the option to apply markers from the Index has been discontinued because it clashed with the automatic markers created for syncing with Connect. This is a shame but although I can see how useful it could be, I managed to overlook this feature entirely during its brief existence!

    Hi Alex,

I was using the Markers tab.

I opened the Marker Index on the map in this blog

I can find no means of adding Markers from the Index.

Confusingly it repeats the tag group I created, in the Single Icons list which no longer appear in the Single Icons group in the Marker tab!
